Jan Lukas Wenzel visited the 55th Technicians’ Conference of the German Agricultural Society (DLG) as a representative of the Geoecology and the project AgriSens-DEMMIN 4.0 , at the Congress Centre in Hanover. The event is aimed specifically at representatives from the experimental sector to find out about new technical developments – particularly in relation to digitalisation and automation – in field trials. Over 950 participants from all over Germany and neighbouring countries attended and found not only technical innovations, but also software solutions and other useful aids for field work.
As part of the oral presentation session, Jan Lukas Wenzel had the honour to present current work from use case 4 Irrigation. Using two examples from the field of agricultural irrigation management for area-based estimation of soil moisture and yield modelling of potatoes, the potential of data obtained from on-farm and scientific exact trials as well as other freely available data sources for digitalisation in agriculture and efficient and resource-saving irrigation management was demonstrated.
