The German-Kazakh Science Day, jointly organized by the Ministry of Education & Research (BMBF) Germany and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, convened in Almaty, Kazakhstan on October 12th and 13th. This collaborative platform was dedicated to exploring “New Prospects and Opportunities for German-Kazakh Science and Research Collaboration.” The event drew distinguished participation from renowned research and funding institutions in Germany, including BMBF, DFG, DAAD, the Humboldt Foundation, Max Planck Institute, Fraunhofer Research Institute, Helmholtz Center, and Leibniz Institute. Representatives from Kazakhstan, representing a diverse spectrum of the research, academia, and industry sectors, were also in attendance. They seized the opportunity to present the dynamic landscape of Kazakh research and science, while also highlighting the available funding avenues. Simultaneously, German research institutes took the stage to showcase their ongoing research endeavors and funding opportunities, emphasizing the potential for collaborative ventures with international partners, particularly those in Kazakhstan. A notable facet of the event was the presentation of exemplary case studies showcasing successful international projects from Germany that have left a significant impact in Kazakhstan. Prominent among these was the establishment of the German Kazakh University and the development of the Central Asia Sustainable Innovation Bureau (CASIB) in Almaty. Among the distinguished participants, Dr. Muhammad Usman and Dr. Peter Liebelt from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg participated and contributed to the event. The event witnessed a palpable enthusiasm among participants to broaden collaborations, spanning academia, research, and industrial development, facilitated by the acquisition of mutual funding. This collective zeal underscores the commitment to nurturing enduring partnerships for the advancement of scientific progress and innovation.
