International conference on science and Practical solutions for the protection of Biodiversity and ecosystems in the Republic of Uzbekistan, 19.05.2025 in Nukus, Uzbekistan

The International Conference on Science and Practical Solutions for the Protection of Biodiversity and Ecosystems took place on May 19, 2025, in Nukus, Republic of Uzbekistan, bringing together national and international experts to discuss strategies for preserving Uzbekistan’s natural heritage in the face of environmental challenges.

The conference featured a diverse range of speakers and presentations aimed at strengthening science-policy integration and promoting collaborative action on ecosystem and biodiversity conservation.

Representing the Department of Geoecology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), Dr. Ing. Muhammad Usman and Matthias Völkel participated in the conference as part of the Green Central Asia Phase II (GCA II) project, which is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and coordinated by GIZ Uzbekistan. In addition, Dr. Peter Liebelt from the Central Asia Sustainable Innovation Bureau (CASIB) — the regional office of MLU in Almaty, Kazakhstan — presented ongoing research activities and regional cooperation initiatives led by his office.

The event facilitated meaningful exchange and reinforced the importance of cross-border collaboration, capacity building, and data-driven approaches to address biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation in Central Asia.
