In the project AgriSens-DEMMIN-4.0 a new publication for use case 4 “Irrigation” on knowledge transfer of research results into agricultural practice has been published in the farmers journal „Bauernzeitung für Ostdeutschland“. In this article, new findings on the basis of field tests on the efficiency of drum sprinkler systems are presented. Their efficiency is usually stated to be between 60 and 70%, since a variety of external influences, such as wind or direct evaporation, make uniform water application difficult. In our field tests, the efficiency was slightly higher, so water could potentially be saved. The results and methods are also part of a developed site-specific water balance model. This on-farm tool provides the ability for the farmer to more effectively schedule irrigation inputs based on the actual water balance of the crop. The article can be found online.
