From May 15 to 17, 2023, the international BonaRes 2023 Conference took place in Berlin. The topic of the conference was “Soil as a Sustainable Resource” and aimed to bring together a wide range of expertise needed to develop management strategies of sustainable soil management to ensure soil functions. AgriSens DEMMIN 4.0 use case 4 “Irrigation” was involved in the conference and specifically in session 5 with an oral presentation of Jan Lukas Wenzel on modeling soil moisture dynamics in variably irrigated starch potato fields. The talk was followed by a lively discussion on the importance of sustainable water management to ensure one of the most important functions of soil – providing water for plant growth. The various poster sessions also saw intense discussion on the multiple functions of soil as well as potential solutions, and various new contacts for further topics were made.
